Oglethorpe Power Goes Live with Lawson Contract Management
Major utility also implemented Lawson Strategic Sourcing and the latest Lawson applications and technology platform to gain greater value from its supply chain operations
ST. PAUL, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 27, 2008--Oglethorpe Power Corporation (OPC) is using two of the latest Lawson Software (Nasdaq: LWSN) applications, Lawson Contract Management and Lawson Strategic Sourcing, to help reduce costs and automate purchasing and other core business processes. OPC is the first customer live on Lawson Contract Management, which was introduced in May. Lawson Professional Services provided implementation support for the system rollout, which also included Lawson Strategic Sourcing and Lawson System Foundation 9.0.1 along with an upgrade to the 9.0.1 Lawson S3 Enterprise Management System.
Located in Tucker, Ga., Oglethorpe Power generates electricity for 38 Electric Membership Corporations (EMCs). It is one of Georgia's largest privately-owned corporations and the nation's largest power supply cooperative in terms of assets and annual kilowatt-hour sales.
Lawson Contract Management, part of the Lawson S3 Supply Chain Management Suite, delivers standardized, auditable processes for contract creation. It gives purchasing managers greater visibility into the supplies and services their organization has under contract, helping them reduce costs by enforcing on-contract purchases. The application also helps users more effectively negotiate contract pricing by supporting analysis of company-wide supply use trends.
"We chose Lawson because we wanted an automated, online process for creating contracts and working with suppliers," said John Lauer, manager of enterprise systems, Oglethorpe Power Corporation. "Lawson now provides a central repository for all of our contract information to help us more efficiently manage contract obligations."
OPC took a two-phased approach to its deployment led by a cross-departmental project team with representatives from HR, finance, procurement and IT. OPC first implemented Lawson System Foundation 9.0.1 and the 9.0.1 Lawson S3 Enterprise System Management System in June. The utility then completed deployment of Lawson Contract Management and Lawson Strategic Sourcing on Aug. 19.
Lawson Strategic Sourcing, also part of the Lawson S3 Supply Chain Management Suite, is designed to automate sourcing of goods and services through electronic creation and posting of bids. The application supports online collaboration with suppliers, which enables them to view requests for proposals then submit bids online. Lawson Strategic Sourcing also helps organizations standardize their sourcing processes to promote compliance with internal purchasing policies and external regulatory requirements.
"Effective management of contracts and supplier relationships is critical in helping organizations like Oglethorpe Power control costs long-term," said Keith Lohkamp, product strategist for Lawson. "Our software helps users take a more strategic approach to building vendor relationships to help maximize the value of new and existing contracts."
