• Clarity is an expert judgment or rating of the number and size of the tiny imperfections or flaws that occur in almost all diamonds.
• Many of these imperfections or flaws are only visible under a microscope and do not affect a diamond’s everyday beauty.

While great attention is given to a diamond's clarity or flawlessness, many gemological experts agree that among jewelry grade diamonds, it has the least impact on appearance versus the other 4 C’s. Clarity is a grading of the tiny, natural imperfections that occur in all but the most flawless diamonds. Gemologists refer to these natural flaws by a variety of technical names including feathers, naturals, blemishes and inclusions, among others. Diamonds with the fewest and least visible imperfections receive the highest clarity grades.

Each of our Karat diamonds comes with a certificate that "maps" the location and size of inclusions so you can see for yourself before making your decision.

What Clarity Grade Is Perfect For Me?

• For the budget minded customer we suggest that you select an "eye-clean" diamond - one that has no imperfections visible to the unaided eye. An excellent value, perhaps something in a SI1 to VS2 range.
• For those with the means to invest more we suggest diamonds of the range between VS1 and flawless (FL) or internally flawless (IF) diamonds, which are extremely rare and as a rule garner higher prices.
• Frequently, imperfections in diamonds graded slightly included (SI) are not visible to the unaided eye, depending on how conservatively they were graded, making them an excellent value.
